CHILDREN: CHRISTMAS GIFT GUIDE 2017

CHILDREN: CHRISTMAS GIFT GUIDE 2017

The excited faces of children on the run up to Christmas is why the magic is just so special. Finding unique gifts that are fun, educational and practical can be tricky, but I’ve put together some of my top gift recommendations for children this year. Personalised gifts for children add that extra touch, especially when they get to an age where they can read their own name. Who doesn’t love a gift with your name on? Most of these gifts inspire children to use their imagination to explore the world of magic and creativity.

Minene Fabric Storage Box with Lid (£30) – Minene is probably best known for its incredibly useful storage boxes and baskets. As soon as you become a parent you learn how important it is to become effective with your storage. Space is often limited and life with babies/children comes with a lot of different things, including: clothes, toys, bedding, dressing up, games etc. So, why not make that storage pretty as well as convenient? This is where Minene step in, they have baskets and boxes in a beautiful range of patterns and designs, perfect for every room in your house. We have a grey chevron basket in the living room with Poppy’s toys in, a grey star small storage box with lid in her bedroom with bibs in and this large storage box with lid in pink white flowers under Isabella’s bed. They’re just so useful, can be flattened down to store away if needed and are made from soft material making them ideal for children’s bedroom. This storage box with lid is available in over 12 different patterns, so head over to the Minene website to find the perfect match to your child’s bedroom.

Minene Baby Christmas Guide

BABY: CHRISTMAS GIFT GUIDE 2017

This year I thought I’d start my series of Christmas Gift Guides with the smallest little ones in our lives, babies. Shopping for babies is one of my favourite things to do, mainly because everything is so cute! I’ve left perhaps the more obvious gift options for babies aside and concentrated on what some of the slightly smaller companies have to offer. Supporting smaller businesses is something I love to do and you can often find such unique gifts with a little bit of hunting. To save you the time I’ve put together some of my favourite gifts for babies this year, so without further ado…
Portable Activity Blanket from Minene (£40) – Wherever you go with a baby you have to find somewhere safe for them to lay or sit, which can be a bit of a challenge. The Minene Portable Activity Blanket conveniently comes in a carry bag and is ideal for taking out with you and your baby. The padded blanket makes otherwise potentially dangerous surfaces safe for babies, such as hard tiled floors, grass, laminated floors etc. It’s not the same as simply laying a blanket down, the waterproof backing makes it hardwearing, the padded aspect helps to make any area comfortable for your baby and the carry bag makes it convenient for taking out-and-about. It would also be great for a picnic or as the base for a den when your babies get older. All of the activity blankets come with different toys attached, providing entertainment for your little one too. I absolutely love this grey ditsy floral pattern, but it is also available in colourful stripespink heartsgreen stripes, blue stars and black/white stars.

REVIEW: MINENE PUSHCHAIR LINER

Review: Minene Pushchair Liner

Don’t you just hate when you end up with a collection of crumbs and fluff in your child’s pushchair or car seat? If you’re lucky, it’ll look something like this:

Crumbs in pushchair

At worst, you won’t want to touch that stuff without a pair of gloves. This is where the Minene pushchair liner comes in!

I recently procured the opportunity to try one for Autumn. I’m so excited that I won’t have to spend ages trying to scrub bits of biscuit off of her pushchair anymore, or have to work out how to get those little crumbs out of that crevice.

I’ll discuss designs a little further later, but as it’s October I’m getting very excited about Halloween! As such, I chose the black and grey ghost patterned liner:

Autumn’s pushchair is red and grey, so I thought it’d match well with it too.

UNIVERSAL

These pushchair liners are designed to be universal, allowing them to fit most pushchairs. They can also be used in car seats! As you can see from the picture below, they have plenty of slits in them to allow the harnesses of a variety of pushchairs and car seats to be pulled through.

It fitted my Quinny Zapp Xtra 2 very well, using the bottom slit and the second slits from the top.

As you can see from the back of the liner, there is also an elasticated band at the back:

MATERIAL

The pushchair liners are made of 100% cotton and feel fantastic quality. I thought it was going to be soft, but I didn’t realise quite how soft! The amount of padding feels as though it’ll make Autumn’s pushchair much more comfortable for her.

Perhaps best of all, it’s machine washable! Woohoo, no more scrubbing stubborn pieces of biscuit off (except for on the straps)!

The packaging also says that it’s azo free. I didn’t know what that meant, so I googled it. In a nutshell, it means that the dyes used are free of carcinogens (nasty potentially cancer causing chemicals). Well, that reassurance is what’s really the best thing about this product to me. I always worry about what my baby is exposed to.

NO MESS

As previously mentioned, I am pleased that I won’t have to worry about crumbs and scrubbing when it comes to the pushchair liner. If it’s just crumbs, I should be able to just brush them off. If it’s anything more, I can whip it off fairly quickly and pop it in the washing machine.

DESIGNS

One of the best things about pushchair liners is that they give your pushchair a new look! I took a photo of my daughter and shared it with a friend the other day and she actually thought I had a new pushchair! They’re pretty affordable too, so if you were that way inclined, you could get a couple and change them around.

At the time of writing, there are several patterned designs available on Minene’s website, some of which are reversible!

Patterned Minene pushchair liners

As much as I love my pushchair, I have been known to look longingly at patterned ones from time to time. However, this liner makes ours more interesting and I’m not so bothered anymore. By the way, if patterns aren’t your thing or you DO have a patterned pushchair and think the above liners would be a little too much, there are plain liners available too!

TEST DRIVE

We’ve been on a couple of test drives with our pushchair liner. You can see that with the design of my pushchair, it flares out a little but still looks great and very comfortable!

It looks like both of us are happy with it!

Monochrome Nursery Accessories with Minene

Monochrome Nursery Accessories with Minene

Anyone walking into my home, looking at my Instagram or even this blog can instantly tell I have a huge love for anything monochrome. I think it’s stylish, bold and just makes a room look clean and bright. I love a white background, bold blacks and with this in mind, I was absolutely thrilled when the lovely team at Minene offered me some of their monochrome range to review.

I was instantly drawn to this gorgeous rug. A lovely white rug with the alphabet embossed as the main feature- it really is perfect. It’s becoming a regular feature in all my posed photo’s of the kids as it embodies everything I love about the monochrome style.

It’s the perfect style for most rooms and is currently residing in our play area in the living room. Isla and Archer both have space to lay and play or sit together, it has helped encourage Isla to keep all her toys in one place and she loves looking at the letters and trying to learn what each of them is.

Once Archer is bigger and able to play upstairs, we are going to incorporate it into his nursery which coincidentally is also black white and grey.

We were also sent a lovely monochrome storage basket for Archer, which is the perfect size to hold his small collection of toys. It’s nice to have a special place for his bits, as Isla has all her designated toy boxes across the rooms of the house she plays in. It’s also lovely and soft with a slight quilted texture meaning as he’s began to roll, he can actually grab at it himself to tip it over and get to his toys, and because it is soft I don’t have to worry about him being hurt in doing so.

Most nursery items seem to be either bright blue or bright pink these days, and I do have a lot of items which are nice and colourful, but my heart truly rests with monochrome so it’s been so refreshing having something fit so nicely in with the theme of my homes decor whilst still being aimed towards the children.

Minene have a whole monochrome range available, as well as so many other items for the little ones- I thoroughly recommend you give them a visit here.

You can use the voucher code BW30 for 30% off any of their monochrome range too!

What colour theme did you choose for your child’s play area? Do you love monochrome as much as me? Let me know!

I received both the storage basket and nursery rug in exchange for this post, in collaboration with Minene. All photos are my own, and all opinions expressed are my own honest thoughts.

What Katy Said Review!

Nursery Storage Baskets From Minene

When I finished decorating Will’s bedroom this time last year, I made a mental note to keep an eye out for some toy storage. I wanted something big enough that it would fit any cuddly toys he would undoubtedly gather along the way, without looking too imposing. I did look at some wicker baskets but nothing seemed to fit in with the theme of the room.

A few weeks ago I had an email from the lovely people at Minene, a baby brand who produce the most gorgeous clothing and accessories. When I spotted the blue and grey star baskets I knew they were exactly the style I’d been looking for. Plus, being made out of material would mean they wouldn’t be such a harsh addition to the room.

I went for the 2 basket set as I wanted a little tub for him to have little bits and bobs in, things that he could sit and reach himself. The smaller basket is perfect for being used as a treasure basket – although I am yet to find the time to make one of those!

The bigger basket is just the right size for his toys – as predicted he has indeed collected quite a few already!

I love that they are soft, no hard edges for him to bang into but strong enough that they hold everything in nicely. His room is finally complete!

If you are looking for toy storage then the Minene website has loads of designs to choose from, all in the soft but study cotton.
