Preparing for a sunny Sunday

The heatwave of the UK continues, and we are making the most of it here at Minene UK. The kids are plastered in sun protection, and we are enjoying a break from the cooking by letting the men BBQ up some food.

Tomorrow is set to be nice too, and as it’s Sunday we will be making the most of it and kicking off the day with breakfast in the garden. I have been busy preparing some fruit to make into fruit kebabs, it’s really simple and effective. Just cut up your favourite fruits (and maybe something the children don’t tend to eat), push them onto wooden skewers which are available in the BBQ aisle of the supermarkets…and voila! Fruit skewers!

I always find filling up the paddling pool in the morning is a good idea, it gives it a few hours to heat up a little from the sun. Sitting down on the Minene Portable Activity Mat, I can hopefully catch a few sunrays while the kids splash happily in the pool.

Of course they can then wrap up in a Cuddly Poncho. Remember we have a giveaway running  on our blog where you could win one! Just enter here.

We hope you all enjoy your sunny weekend, and that the little people are coping OK with the heat…back soon!

Of course they have their Minene Cuddly Ponchos for when they get out.

Getting out and about this summer

The past week has gone by in a blur of school runs and rainy days, but this Sunday I was determined to get out into the garden. The benefits of getting out into the fresh air are massive, not only does it provide natural Vitamin D but it helps perk everyone up a bit with a change of scenery. Even when it has been raining my kids love nothing better than popping their Wellington boots and raincoat on, and going outside to splash in as many puddles as they can find. I find for toddlers these suits are amazing at keeping their clothes dry, no matter how big the splashes are!

Pack Away Waterproof All-In-Ones £32.00

When taking the baby out into the garden it’s tricky to find a place to put her down safely. She is 6 months old and is no longer content with just sitting in a pushchair, she wants to be exploring!

The Portable Activity Mat is perfect for using outside, measuring a 135cm x 135cm, it has plenty of space for baby to explore.  It has a water resistant back which keeps your bottoms dry and the top is made from 100% cotton and even has toys attached. When you are finished with it you can simply pop it back into the bag that comes provided with it.

The great thing is the mat is completely machine washable, so it really doesn’t matter how much mess they make as you can pop it in the washing machine when you are done. This is a product that as a mum I adore, being able to protect my child from dirty floors, and protect my dirty children from clean floors, it has so many uses.  Fear not if pink isn’t your thing, there is other colours available too, including green, blue and my personal favourite, grey.

You can buy the Minene Portable Activity Blanket for £37.

The summer holidays are almost upon us in the UK, so over the next few weeks we shall be sharing some great activity and ideas to keep the little ones amused, watch this space!

Summer Must Haves & Giveaway

Although summer is in full swing, you cannot help but see those clouds outside and wonder if summer has already been and gone in a flash. But here at Minene we are feeling optimistic that the sunshine is saving itself for many more bright and sunny days, especially as we still have the whole of July and August still to come. Alternatively you may be lucky enough to be jetting off to warmer climates, and be looking for some ‘Must Haves’ to take with you, so we have come up with a Summer Survival Guide which hopefully might have something new you haven’t discovered before.

Having a baby in the hot summer sun can be a worrying experience, you worry that they may overheat despite doing everything you can to keep them out of the sun, but it can be so much fun, and those days can be some of the most memorable.

Having a parasol on your pushchair can be handy to shade baby from the sun, but like many people I find they get in the way, and older babies just love pulling them around too. The Minene Pushchair Sunshade is made from 100% cotton muslin, it fits to any pushchair and even has a peekaboo window, so you can keep an eye on your little one.  Available in pink, blue and cream, this will help you keep baby shaded and out of their reach too. It also comes with it’s own little pouch, so when not in use you can fold it up and pop it in your handbag.

pushchair_sunshadeTo help shade baby from the sun when playing in the park, or even on the beach or in the garden, a hat is a vital must have. Look out for one with a large rim all the way round the head, rather than a peaked cap, as the rim will help shade babies neck and ears, as well as helping to keep the sun out of your little ones eyes.  The Minene Reversible Cotton Sun Hat is of course perfect, as well as having lovely designs, in addition with it being reversible means it’s two hats in one!

Finally, for travelling by car a travel sunshade to stick to the window is essential. Even if you don’t own a car yourself, you may well be on holiday and renting one or even find yourself in a taxi. The Minene Car Sunshade simply poppers to any window. It is made from 100% muslin cotton and gives great coverage from the sun. It also folds up nice and small into it’s on pouch, for just £12 this is great to have in your handbag, or in my case, the glove box in your car.

blue_sunshade_carWe all know that sun screen is vital for all the family, but finding one which is safe for use on even the most sensitive baby can be tricky. After searching high (and low) we have found Ultrasun SPF50. It is free from the usual nasties found in everyday sun protection and is hypo-allergenic, making it suitable for even the most sensitive little skin. It is also suitable for all the family, no carrying extra bottles for baby.
